Bathroom Design
Whether you’re dreaming of a spa-like retreat or a modern refresh, Heceli Kitchens & Baths brings thoughtful design and precise execution to every bathroom project.
Our clients come to us for beauty, functionality, and expert guidance through every detail—from layout and lighting to tile, tub, and fixture selection. Whether you’re blending old-world Santa Fe charm with contemporary design or looking for a clean break into something modern and minimal, we’ll help you navigate every possibility.
Style Meets Function
With today’s vast selection of tiles, finishes, and fixtures, your bathroom can reflect nearly any aesthetic—warm and earthy, sleek and modern, or a seamless blend of both. We specialize in bridging traditional Northern New Mexico styles with more contemporary preferences, ensuring a cohesive look that respects the architecture of your home.
Many of our clients opt to:
- Refresh bathrooms in older homes while honoring original character.
- Replace outdated or underused tubs with larger, more luxurious showers.
- Add high-functioning touches like inside-drawer outlets and built-in storage to keep counters clean.
What Kind of Bathroom Are You Planning?
We work across a wide range of spaces and functions:
- Spacious, spa-like primary suites
- Cozy but functional primary baths
- Guest baths that double as powder rooms
- High-traffic family bathrooms
- Compact powder rooms with high style impact
What We’re Seeing
The majority of our recent projects have been renovations, with some new construction to keep things fresh. We keep a close eye on national design trends through trusted sources like Kitchen & Bath Design News and Houzz, while always tailoring our designs to fit the unique needs of our Santa Fe clients.
Here’s what we’re seeing in our projects—and how it compares nationwide:
Tub vs. Shower
Nationally, over 25% of homeowners remove their tubs during renovation. Among our clients? Closer to 85%. Especially in primary baths, showers have become the priority. That said, clients with young grandchildren or resale in mind sometimes retain a bathtub elsewhere in the home.
The Wet Room Trend
We’ve designed several luxurious wet rooms that combine a freestanding tub and a spacious, walk-in shower. These spaces are minimal, beautiful, and highly functional—often finished with tile or stone walls, a floor-mounted tub filler, and frameless glass panels. (And yes, we work closely with trusted general contractors to manage all the “digging in the dirt.”)
Why Remodel at All?
Most of our clients remodel because their bathrooms are outdated, poorly laid out, or in need of repair. Mold, broken fixtures, and aging designs are common reasons to renovate. Others simply want a better use of space—or a more beautiful way to begin and end each day.
Upgrades We’re Seeing (and Loving)
- Showers: Nearly 100% of our clients upgrade the shower, often removing the tub to do so. Frameless glass doors, curbless entries, and beautiful tile floors with proper slope and slip resistance are all common requests.
- Vanities: Wood cabinetry with soft-close doors and drawers is the standard. We install high-end Blum hardware and often include outlets inside drawers for a clutter-free look. Dental appliances and hair dryers? Hidden.
- Lighting & Fixtures: Clients upgrade plumbing fixtures, hardware, and lighting in over 85% of our projects. Custom-framed mirrors or mirrors integrated into tile are replacing wall-to-wall sheets of glass.
- Finishes: Around Santa Fe, we’re seeing more tile and stone on non-shower walls—both for beauty and long-term durability.
- Toilets: Some clients are opting for smart toilets and integrated bidets, inspired by luxury spas. We even encourage them to “test drive” these features at Izanami at Ten Thousand Waves!
